Dave Shepard was born in Concord, NH on May 25th, 1958. His earliest musical influence was his father who was an accomplished pianist and singer. Dave's home was filled with his father's powerful renditions of Gospel songs, hymns, show tunes and old-time songs from the 1920's through 1960's. Dave spent hours at his father's piano teaching himself to read music and play. He moved to St. Petersburg, Fl at age 12 in 1970 and has lived in Brooksville for 7 years.

 

In 4th grade he began lessons on the trombone and continued with this instrument through college and into the professional world performing with orchestras and blues bands. He learned trumpet in 7th grade, bass and drums during high school and acquired his first flute at age 18. Dave studied music at St. Petersburg Jr. College and graduated from USF with a degree in Religious studies.

 

Dave took up his great passion at age 13, the guitar. Since, he has achieved an astounding mastery of the instrument. He has been recognized not only for his technical acumen and thorough knowledge of the fret board but for the fire and emotion he portrays through his Performances.

 

Dave began writing songs at age 15 and continues to add to his book of original material every year. He has written 250 songs in many styles, two musical dramas and recorded 4 CD’s. His lyrics are noted for their sincerity and emotional impact on the listener. Dave has also authored 20 music instruction books for guitar, bass, drums, ukulele and piano.

 

Over the years Dave Shepard has made a living teaching, performing, recording, mixing sound and lighting and arranging. He has worked at schools, churches, music stores, TV stations, theaters, civic centers and is the founder of the famous "ROCK’n’BLUES Academy". Dave has performed for Marshall Tucker Band, Pat Travers and Roger Daultry (of the Who) and worked as a technician for shows by Prince, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Dave also serves as pastor of the Hearts for God Worship Center in Brooksville, Fl.

 

Dave has established a reputation as a premier blues/southern rock performer in the Tampa Bay and Nature Coast regions of Florida with his band "The Blues Riders", his solo show and the Dave and Kenny Duo. They perform originals and covers weekly at area restaurants, clubs and events. Dave’s original recordings have received local radio and international TV airplay.

 

Dave looks forward to furthering his career as a performing musician, writer and teacher. The purpose of all his endeavors is to have a positive impact on the people in his life and to experience God’s presence through the creative expression of His gifts.
